The Evolution of Steel Silos

The use of steel silos for grain storage dates back to 1930.

• First Stage: Riveted Silos
  In the initial stage, steel silos were of the riveted type. They were assembled by riveting 6 - 10 mm steel plates, making them extremely sturdy.
• Second Stage: Welded Silos
  The second stage introduced welded silos. These were made from 4 - 10 mm thick steel plates. Welded silos offer good airtightness, high strength, and can be built at greater heights. However, they have certain drawbacks. Their surface anti-corrosion ability is relatively poor, steel consumption is high, and maintenance costs are also elevated.
• Third Stage: Thin-wall Silos
  Normally, there are two main types: prefabricated corrugated steel silos and screw steel silos. In the mid - 19th century, to meet the requirements of bulk grain transportation, thin-wall steel silos became widely adopted. These silos possess numerous advantages such as lightweight construction, easy installation, low cost, high mechanization and automation levels, and high efficiency. Especially since the 1970s, with the use of standardized materials in production, they have witnessed large-scale development. In particular, for our Suiry Silo, we use galvanized internal vertical reinforcements. This enhances the anti-corrosion and rust resistance properties, extends the lifespan of the steel silo, and has gained industry recognition for its economic efficiency and practicality.
